Fishing in Connemara
Lough Inagh and Derryclare Fishery is situated in Connemara, County Galway, which is in the West of Ireland.  The fishery is made up of two Loughs (Inagh & Derryclare) and 4 river beats.  There are 6 boats available for hire on Lough Inagh and 1 boat available on Derryclare.  Outboard engines are essential and can be hired from the fishery manager upon request.  Ghillees can also be arranged the day before you fish and are advised.  Beats and boats carry 2 rods and dapping is allowed on the lakes.  State salmon angling licences are compulsory and are available on site.  The fishery is fly fishing only and all the fish are wild.
Spring salmon enter the system in April and can be taken in the river beats particularly the Derryclare Butts, summer salmon (grilse) usually arrive in June and these fish are caught on both lake and river.  The sea trout enter the system in late June and are caught all over the fishery on most fly patterns.  High water is generally better for angling as the fish need to progress up the Ballynahinch system to the top waters of Lough Inagh.  There is a massive stock of indigenous brown trout and these free rising fish often make a memorable day for some anglers.  Fish up to 12lbs have been caught in recent years.  There is a bag limit for salmon in place and all trout are catch and release.  The fishing season closes on September 30.
Lough Inagh is about 7 kilometres in length and is the biggest and probably the most beautiful lake in Connemara.  It is generally not a deep lake and has lots of beautiful islands with natural Irish flora.
Lough Inagh Lodge Hotel carries a large range of suitable fishing flies for sale, and also has a tackle hire service for anglers who wish to travel light.  The hotels chefs are only too delighted to cook your catch if you are lucky enough to catch a salmon.
